How are the tier ranges calculated?+
Each tier's fee range is calibrated from public sources: Resident Advisor reporting on DJ fees, Decoded Magazine's coverage of touring economics, Technoairlines' 2025 highest-paid techno DJs report, and Reddit threads where working DJs share their actual rates. Top techno DJs like Carl Cox ($50-100K/show), Solomun ($100-200K/show), and Adam Beyer ($40-80K/show) anchor the upper tiers. Residents and local DJs from r/DJs surveys anchor the lower tiers.
Is this for wedding DJs?+
No. If you do weddings, parties, mitzvahs, or corporate events, use our DJ Rate Calculator instead — it's calibrated to that market (The Knot, Zola). This tool is for performance DJs: residents, club DJs, electronic music artists, and touring acts.
I'm getting paid less than the range for my tier. Why?+
A few reasons usually: (1) you haven't actually moved up a tier yet — followers and label deals lag behind your skill; (2) you accepted low fees once and the venue locked it in; (3) you don't have an agent so promoters lowball; (4) the local market is weak. The tier-up moves in your result address all of these.
What if I do BOTH club gigs and weddings?+
Most working DJs do. Use this tool to know your performance tier. Use the wedding rate calculator separately to price wedding gigs. They're different revenue streams with different rate logic — don't try to blend them.
Are these fees with or without expenses?+
Fees in this tool are PERFORMANCE FEE ONLY. Once you hit Tier 3 (regional touring), travel, hotel, and per diem are negotiated SEPARATELY on top. Each tier shows the rider items you should be asking for at that level.
